Linux and Linux-Related Stuff
While I can't claim to be a Linux expert by any means, I have been a Linux user for the past three years or so. Here I'll try to share some links and some information with you. Linux experts might not find anything of interest here, but those of you who are new to Linux or are considering giving Linux a try might find this page useful.
There's not a whole lot here yet, but as time goes on I hope to be able to add more.

To get things started off, here's a screenshot of my current desktop:
Click on the image above to see a full-sized version of the image (1152x864, 418.3 kilobytes).
Here are some notes about my current configuration:
- I'm using the current stable version of Debian (http://www.debian.org), which is version 4.0 (codename "Etch")
- I'm using version 2.14.3 of the GNOME Desktop Environment (http://www.gnome.org)
- The background image is a picture I took myself. You can find it on my Photography page - it's the sunset on Thomas Woods Trail picture from May 12, 2004.
- The font you see with the desktop icons is called "Tuffy." It's a great font, and you can find it at http://www.tulrich.com/fonts/. There is a Debian package available for this font - just do a search on the Debian packages page for the "ttf-tuffy" package.
- The information you see on the right side of the screen is being displayed by a program called Conky, which can be found at http://conky.sourceforge.net.
- The font I'm using with Conky is called "Liberation Mono" which is part of the Liberation fonts created by Red Hat. You can find them at http://www.redhat.com/promo/fonts/.
